The Gamtoos Valley, nicknamed the fruit basket for the Eastern Cape, is recognised as one of the prime exporting areas for citrus and avocado pears. Potatoes, tobacco and chicory are produced for the local market, competing with the best that South Africa has to offer. The main season is between April to October.
